Get Your Grill On: Arizona BBQ Festival

Rudy's Pulled Pork Sandwich

Last weekend on Mother's Day my daughters were too far away to bring me breakfast in bed, so I was taken out for brunch.

We arrived at Crackers to get my favorite California Eggs Benedict only to find out that I wasn't the only mother who had a hankering for hollandaise. Since the wait was over an hour, we started driving looking for options.

As we came close to 54th Street and Chandler Boulevard, we saw the new large red building with a steady stream of people heading in.

Rudy's is the first Arizona location for the well known BBQ hot spot and we parked to see what kind of brunch they had to offer. Apparently Rudy's was featured on the Food Network’s “Best Regional Barbecues" but we didn't know this on Sunday morning.

We missed breakfast (they stop serving breakfast tacos at 10am) but all I can tell you is, one wiff of smoky goodness and my eggs bene craving was long forgotten. I was "all in" with my new favorite mother's day brunch: Pulled Pork Sandwich.

So, with a hankering for more BBQ, and being new to this fine southwest state, I think it's only fair for me to find out what the local competition has to offer.

With that in mind, I'm heading to the Arizona Barbeque Festival this weekend to test the chops of the region's best grillers.

Here's the scoop:

"Brand new location: Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in sunny Scottsdale, Arizona! Set to become the biggest BBQ event in the state, this combined competition and food festival will take place on the sprawling grass fields outside the spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. BBQ teams will battle for $40,000 cash (the largest prize fund in AZ), while tons of the region’s top BBQ vendors dish out the best smoked meat you’ve ever tasted. There will be plenty of $2 competition samples…" Click here for full details

Happy Friday!
